There are numerous opportunities to spend time abroad during the master's programme

Building on the bachelor's degree, the master programme initially enables the students to gain a deeper knowlege of physics and thereby to set an individual focus by choosing preferred lectures and seminars. As part of an internationally renowned and networked research environment, you contribute your own ideas and skills. After graduating, you can go on to do a doctorate but you also have excellent career prospects from basic research to the high-tech industry.

Special about Konstanz

- open doors and excellent supervision
- integrated in an internationally networked research environment
- possibility to do a doctorate and promising career prospects
- free and individual curriculum design
- diverse opportunities for a stay abroad

Structure of the study programme

The Master's programme is composed of two phases:

In the first year, the in-depth phase, you can choose courses from different specialisation areas, both in experimental and theoretical physics. You consolidate and intensify your knowledge and find your focus in terms of content.

In the second year, the research phase, you gain extensive research experience in an excellent and internationally renowned environment. You are fully integrated into a working group at our department and investigate your own research question in theoretical or experimental physics under supervision.

You can find more detailed information in the curriculum.

The following specialisations are available in the Master's degree programme in Physics:

  • Quantum Information and Quantum Materials
  • Computational Physics
  • Laser and Quantum Optics
  • Renewable Energies
  • Complex Systems and Biophysics

These specialisations can be shown on the transcript if the following criteria are fulfilled:

  • Master's thesis from the area of specialisation
  • Acquisition of 10 ECTS credits through successfully passed participation in an elective lecture or a project practical course and seminar from the corresponding area of specialisation
