Target group: First year students of the Faculty of Sciences in particular of physics, mathematics and biology. If interested also for students of chemistry and computer science. A registration is not necessary.

Experience has shown that many new students have despite high marks in their Abitur (or similar) difficulties with mathematics during their studies and are only able to follow lectures and practical courses in basic subjects with great efforts.
To facilitate the introduction to mathematics, the Department of Physics of the University of Konstanz offers to all first year students of the Faculty of Science a compact course in mathematics for preparation. Most participants of previous years have, on their own account, greatly benefited of this course.
The goal of the pre-course in mathematics is to get involved with formal thinking, to accept mathematics as the most important tool and to practice it application-oriented. Furthermore, the often very different knowledge of mathematics, which new students possess should be reactivated and deepened.

The content for the pre-course of mathematics is guided by the recommendation of the conference of the department of physics (Empfehlungen der Konferenz der Fachbereiche Physik (KFP)) from 7.11.2011.
