The head of department, who is also the doctoral coordinator, works with the central examination office of the university to oversee the doctoral examination procedures.
The doctoral coordinator can request the Doctoral Committee decide on individual matters.
The Doctoral Committee consists of professors primarily employed at the University of Konstanz as well as university lecturers and Privatdozent (lecturers) of the department. The head of department chairs the Doctoral Committee.
One of the responsibilities of the Doctoral Committee is to decide which doctoral researchers will be accepted to the department.
